Scouting will also help - if your QB is familiar with the play he will be more likely to hot read to a receiver against a blitz which has the potential to be a big gain.

How long has this been a thing? The previous communications we have had about progression has never mentioned this. As far as I knew, QBs always started down WRs one at a time.

It's been there pretty much since the beginning. It's not been mentioned a lot, probably needs mentioned more often. Basically before the play, each blitzer is assigned to a blocker. If there are too many blitzers, then the RB (if he is not already a blocker) may switch from running a route to covering the extra blitzer (depending on his experience). If there are still too many blitzers, the QB may call a hot read (depending again on his experience), and the WR closest to the hole left by the extra blitzer will go to that hole for a quick pass. You'll know then this happens because the QB takes about a 2-step drop and throws the ball almost immediately.

By experience, I am referring to both the QB positional experience as well as his familiarity with the offensive and defensive play being called. That's why scouting is important, as it improves the QB's familiarity of a play.

I've seen this happen, but I didn't know that it was part of the code. I always thought it was something to do with how the client was displaying game actions.
