Nope, if the player retires, the team is not obligated to pay the remaining season's bonuses

I disagree .. I believe all bonus counts (trades, cuts, retirements).

No, the team is not penalized for a player retiring. The player forfeits any remaining bonus if he chooses to retire. I guarantee it!

That may be how it works in real life, but in MFN you have to pay the bonus if a player retires.

I agree with WarEagle. And as it happens, an NFL team is also still responsible for the prorated signing bonus cap hit even after the player retires.

no way is the team penalized into remaining responsible to a retired player. The player forfeited his right to the remainder of his contract by retiring

I think you are misunderstanding. As far as salary goes, you are correct. But all the bonus money was already paid up front. The bonus listed for each season is the prorated amount of that bonus that counts against the cap for each season. So since the money was already paid ahead of time, the team still takes the cap hit for it, in the way I described above.

This is correct, and as stated above is the way that it works in the NFL.

Oh no, I think it is a wonderful thing! In both MFN and the NFL. When you are fool enough to deal with bloodsucking agents and toss out 100 million dollar contracts with 90 million in bonus money to overrated team cancers to like T.O. or Pac-Man or Ocho Cinco, then you should have to face consequences and suffer. But never fear, even if you never win the GM or Owner of the year awards, you can always pimp ungodly sums of money out of your fan base to come watch your overrated mediocre teams on the fancy high dollar diamond vision jumbotron just like good old Jerry does!
