Just quit calling it "Game of the Week", because it's not.

Call it "most evenly matched game" or something.

Calling it "Game of the Week" just makes it seem like the code used to "pick" this game is broken.

I'd rather not see it at all than to see two 0-12 teams hyped as the GOTW just because the spread is EVEN.

Disagree, in most leagues there are about half a dozen team that contest the league every season, are you suggesting that these teams have more merit than 2 winless Teams?
Winless teams still play good games, also I think it makes the game more inclusive.

If this was decided after the games were played, then yes. A game between two winless teams could end up being the best game of the week.

But beforehand, there is no way a game between those teams should be billed as the game of the week, aka the most anticipated matchup.

Yeah I understand your point, but many media outlets do just this though and it is a bit of a craps shoot

Eh, I take it like the Power Rankings .. just a fun feature. It truly means nothing.

I agree. It means nothing and I don't really care how awful this stuff is right now. There are a lot of other things that need fixing/adding before any time is spent getting these things right.

I think that eventually these supplemental features (power rankings, point spreads, GOTW, MVP, player of the week, etc.) can be great additions if they made any sense at all, but that it would be better to not have them when they don't because I think it gives the impression that the programmer(s) don't understand football (which I don't believe to be true at all).

EX:

My team is part of the next GOTW in MFN-1.
GB @ DET
Spread: EVEN really?

What makes this so ridiculous is that GB is 5-1, while DET is 1-5. Plus, GB just beat DET 54-17 the game before last.

But, that was in GB. This game is in DET. They must have one heck of a home field advantage.

UPDATE: Final Score GB 36 - DET 0

Maybe a Game of the Week based on spread and then a Most Anticipated or Most Hyped Game of the Week based on the other criteria.

I have used this (really simple) formula in another application.

Team 1 Wins - T1W
Team 2 Wins - T2W

(T1W+T2W) - (|T1W-T2W|)

High score is best game.

Give it a shot.

Side topic: Power Rankings

I'm new and one my first season with a middling PHI team.

The power rankings had me around 15 (which is totally fine) and Week 2 I'm a 6pt underdog at home against the #4 Minnesota Vikings. I pull out a slim 4pt victory and noticed that they dropped a spot after the game, as I scroll down I see that my team fell 3 spots after a big underdog win!?

That's probably because of movement by the other teams - your value most likely went up, but any teams you played then would have had a negative impact by that, which means teams they played had a positive impact, etc, etc ...

In other words it's dark, murky, and you should give it a few weeks to let the rankings give a more accurate picture. They do eventually reflect team strength accurately.
