I am curious is a player led the league in something, does it effect a future contract

They could, I agree. However, there's not much incentive to right now. If there are awards for it the incentive to do such becomes higher. Teams like that didn't exist like that in GLB until HoF came out.

Losing is the incentive. Having more incentive to win might be the way to go. Pro Bowls and league awards would be an awesome addition. Also, having awards adjust the contracts of players would reflect the NFL some what.

It happens to some extent in the nfl.
Denny Green head coach of the Vikings was quoted as saying something like... it was more important to sell tickets than win. He thought the way to do that was flashy star focused offense and weak turnover focused defense.

In my opinion, a simple acknowledgement is a much smaller incentive than getting a top 5 pick, or even a slightly better draft position, so I don't think it would have a negative impact at all.
