Retiree bonus

So I was wondering if older players get their bonus for the remaining contract years when they leave, ie. The remaining bonus becomes dead cap the next year. I saw a jump in dead cap without releasing any big contract. I had some decent guys retire so was wondering. Thanks.

Yes, the team is responsible for all remaining bonus money on the contract when a player retires. This does add some risk to signing older players to big contracts.

Thanks. Gonna be a rough couple seasons until I clear these old vets with big contracts. How can you land the 90+ guys on FA without the risk of them retiring in 1 or 2 yrs?!

Typically you will need to look at positions, HBs and CBs typically come free around year 5, and will start to fall off around year 8. So those guys you should get at least 3-4 good years out of if you sign them at year 5. DEs typically don't start falling off until around year 11-12 ish give or take.

Thanks. From my experience, not much, it seems OL last as long as DEs. LBs, CBs, Ss, RBs seem to drop off at 8 and retire by 10. What do you think?
