AI Substitution Issue?

The USFL has a rule of no 2 way players allowed, you either play offense or defense, not both. We had a WR play DB in the second half of a preseason game and record 3 INTs, and now the defecation is hitting the oscillating unit.

Other than purposefully putting him there, what could cause this? The WR in question is not listed on the depth chart for any defensive position, yet there he is on the field.

It's a pre-season thing, the team will have starters pulled for the second half, so if the depth chart runs dry the Head Coach selects the most suitable/random/nonsensical and slots them in.

To protect from this either put more players on the depth chart or change the settings for withdrawing players.

For complete openness, this appears to be completely a factor of my setting to remove starters at halftime in the preseason. Robinson wasn't the only WR that saw time on defense, a couple others did as well. I also had DTs and DEs in the secondary and OL playing DL. None of that was intentional nor intended.

This was the response from the offending party. Makes sense to me.

FWIW, i "never" choose to remove starters during the preseason.
...but I am really freaking nutty when it comes to overrides, so I don't have to choose to remove - say at halftime - to get my rookies and younglings game time. I do overs for preseason 1 (all the younglings), 3 (time to condition the vets), reg 1 (let's party), and about every 4-5 weeks thereafter (hmm, this guy just can't catch this year lol) unless a long term injury needs an adjustment.
Every player I have has a specific role in specific sets, and I draft accordingly.

I guess this sounds aloof or scolding, ive had a sinus infection for about 10 days and really don't mean to be, if so. I certainly do sound hoity-toity lol!
That said, I did want to say what works for me as a suggestion and I hope the information is useful to a few folks. Admittedly, what works for me may not work for others.

Glad you found the quirk that caused the issue of concern, good to see adults being adults about it :) Best of luck in your league!

Never let the AI do anything with your roster. Ever. ;)

Preseason is like pull starters but conditioning is low. And the depth chart is weird there if you leave an inactive player in override or high depth slot. As the wr3 will play as the wr2 in a 2wr set but will remain as the wr3 in a 3wr set if the original wr2 is not available. I think if it were a 3wr set the wr4 would replace the wr2.... until fatigue pulls the wr3 and maybe the wr1. With no overrides and lower fatigue levels I see my guys every where.

But i have deeper charts and still it’s consistently happening. While your weights will effect subs when searching out side the chart. Cause size is a factor. Your dline playing dB is weird but I am assuming speed acceleration are high for both aand perhaps technical skills are low in comparison...but maybe not tackling which I am assuming you value higher... maybe intelligence too.
