Re: 3-4 Blitz Nomenclature

When creating your play matrix or setting rules, it's problematic trying to set blitz numbers due to the mix of 3-4 and 4-3 concepts that utilize different total blitzers, but get lumped into the same categories. A standard 3-4 will have one blitzer by default (for a total of 4), whereas a 4-3 will only rush its front 4. However, all 3-4 plays consider your standard blitzing OLB as a "Blitz 1" from LB. So if your playbook has a mixture of both concepts, if you wanted to only call plays with X number of total blitzers in a certain situation, you will end up calling either one less blitzer from your 3-4 or one extra one from your 4-3 (depending on your perspective). For instance, if you decided you never wanted to blitz from the LB slot in 3rd and medium, this would mean any 3-4 plays you called would be max prevent with no fourth man attacking. If you account for this and set your 'Blitz 1' to 100%, all your 4-3 plays that get selected will now be your ones that send 5 guys. I feel there needs to be some way to better distinguish this. Maybe this is strictly my own pet peeve, but I tend to run a mix of both 3-4 and 4-3 and find it frustrating trying to strike a balance and get the plays I want to be called called.

A "Blitz" should be defined as any time 5 or more Players are designated to attack the backfield (Run or QB).
