Re: Additional User-Created League Features

I'm sure it's possible a similar thread has been created somewhere, and if so I apologize. I've been really wanting to host a college league, and aside from the one Bryson is hosting
    https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/
, I haven't seen any others. Unfortunately, it seems the current settings really strict the ability to set up a realistic college league, which is why I'd like to see these features added for when users create a league:

1a) Set number of regular season games
I know you can set free/late free agency stages, and preseason games, but what about regular season games? If it's not currently available, I'd like to be able to set how many regular season games we can have in a season

1b) Set postseason structure
Similar to 1a, but would allow college leagues to set bowl games and the standard playoff format

2) How long a player plays for
I'd also like a setting that limits how long players stay in a league. This would be extremely beneficial for college as players would be limited to 4/5 seasons instead of 15+

3) Number of conferences and teams in each conference
Expanding on this, I don't mean to have a strict "x" number of conferences with "y" teams in each conference. I'd appreciate the flexibility of also being able to set the number of teams in each conference

4) Allow league admins to manually generate/create schedules
This might be a tough one to do, but it would be a huge addition imo

Now obviously there are some issues with college leagues that should be addressed:

Trading
As Bryson does in his league, trading just won't be allowed

Recruiting
This is probably the biggest issue, and I will admit that I haven't thought of the best idea either. I know in a different game that is also pro-oriented, a college league eliminates the draft and uses a free agency system where higher prestige teams have a larger budget. This is a possibility with MFN, but perhaps a more creative thinker has a better idea

Red Shirting
If we were to expand on point 2, being able to set how long a specific player plays would be nice, but a standard 4 season with no red shirting is fine

Transfers
Also not sure, but perhaps if a team doesn't want a player they can cut them and the player enters the same FA pool as recruits. Issue is good but unhappy players will likely not be in the pool

Playoffs
Another area I don't have a solution for, but if league admins can manually set the playoff field that would be awesome. If not, perhaps someone has a different process

This is all I got right now, I may add more later, but this may be a good starting point for discussion.

Thanks

To go along with this, the "learning curve" would have to be much quicker, as in some players are fully developed in year 2. Currently it takes 5 or more years for a player to reach their potential.

Also, if players only play 4 years (for example), in a perfect year everyone would have to replace about 14 players. You're going to need a much higher percentage of players in the draft pool that can actually play (unless you want half the team to be walk ons).

extending the draft pool is a query i've already discussed with jdb. Basically the way the system is we could never replenish the players lost to graduation

I'd love to be in a college league with all these features.

I might have to quit my job.

These are my Ideas
First, each team should have 65 Players
Recruiting - Each season, much like when a Draft Class is created, a separate Recruiting list should be created.
Much like Free Agency Period, team owners will attempt to recruit the players on the recruiting list using as their cap a yearly average of their stadium capacity. For example, if a team has a stadium that holds 65,000 and that stadium was filled for the past season an average of 65% of the time, that team would have a 1,056250 cap if ticket prices was based on $25. I do believe Ticket prices should be set evenly through out the league.
Another way to determine cap space is the home team gets 65% of a gate while the visitors get 35%. For example, if a team had 66,000 possible attendance, and for the game the week of the game the attendance was 55,000, then the home team would get $893,750 and visitors would get $481,250 which would accumulate until the end of the season.
Each year a team is given 38 yearly scholarships and 7 Full Time Scholarship for a total of 45 scholarships per season. The Full Time scholarships must be distributed to a 1st year or second year player 1 time only, with no FTS ever given to the same player. These players given a FTS will by the team to either have a option to be redshirted (play for 5 years if Freshman) or play for 4 years if either Freshman or Sophomore.
The 38 remaining scholarships must be distributed among incoming and current players. If a current player is not offered a seasonal contract, then he is able to transfer to another team, where he will be redshirted for one season before being able to play for his current team still counting against the cap.
Each season, 20 computer based randomly generated "walk-ons" will be added to a team in which the coach can decide to keep or cut. These players in their first season will not be eligible for a scholarship, but eligible in their second season on the team. If a Walkon does not make the team in his first season, he will not attempt to join a team again.
