Trades - show trade bar

By martinwarnett

On the forum notification threads and when looking at the League trades page, the only info displayed are the players/picks involved.

To help anyone external to the trade evaluate the trade better, can the weighting bar be displayed also?

I don't know how this would be done, but a pretty good idea actually

The way I was thinking is there would probably be some semblance of a number involved in calculating the trade - so say -100 if swung towards player A. 0 if perfectly balanced. +100 if swung towards player B. All numbers in between indicating the degree of balance and to which side.

If that number was stored as part of the trade details, then it could be rendered accordingly. How it would be displayed in the forum, eh, pass. In terms of the league trades page, well the page is obv html. It would be a case of rendering a display.

I still think the focus on trades should be getting the trade bar accurate. This passed season I had a player I intended to cut that could have been o.k. I wanted a 4th round pick, but it said he was worth a second. I ended up getting nothing, as nobody in there right mind would trade a 2nd for a guy maxed in the mid 60's in his 9th season. A 4th should have been doable, but it said too unbalanced. Frustrating.

I agree about the balance.

I think with some visible indicating of what the game engine was thinking of a trade then there's a transparency - so we as a community can then give feedback about the trades whilst also learning more about how the trade bar evaluates.

The most recent changes to the trade bar (as of Feb 20 last month) took actual data for players being drafted to map them to draft pick values (using the standard draft value chart). That value is then reduced starting with the player's 4th year. So in the last month you should have seen a bit of difference in the balance bar.

Unfortunately a big part of the balance is subjective and changes from league to league and even season to season, so it's tough to build an objective algorithm that works in every case.

Well, agreed it's difficult to get a good algorithm - but when a trade has one side swapping picks for each of four rounds and losing 9 spots on each...

JDavid I agree that it is very hard. It also depends somewhat on what the talent level is at each position in the league. In our league, almost everyone has DT's in the 80's. But CB and WR are much lower on average. So, that has an impact on value as well. I understand how hard it is, It is just frustrating that I can't make a trade that seems fair to me. I will now take my own advise and stop complaining.
