Fix Injuries for Real

Recently, I was able to muddle through a rash of injuries to take a title: https://xfl.myfootballnow.com/team/32

Hooray for me, right? But, not so fast. This time, it was an accident, but people will start to figure out how this sort of thing is done. It will go from being a happy accident, to a strategy, to an exploit, just like punt blocking is now. You will have people limping through bad divisions while protecting their best players, only to jump out of the weeds at the end to try to take the title. The regular season will become increasingly meaningless unless injuries are fixed. Already, the injury slider is almost as believable as pro wrestling.

I realize that injuries are part of real life, but they are a reality that sucks. If you want to protect the integrity of My Football Now, you need to fix injuries, or at least give us some real-life tools to deal with them. The long-term effect of kicking us while we're down is to sap the meaning out of the regular season.

Injuries are vital to ensure that the best roster doesn't simply guarantee a coronation each season. The scenario you describe about doesn't sound like an exploit of any kind, rather it sounds like a strategy - resting your best in easy games, then playing them when it matters.

If the situation were more fair, then I might agree with you. However, injuries have gotten to the point that creating a good roster is pointless. If this is all a crapshoot to see who avoids injuries, then there is no reason to actually play the game. We might as well just get rid of the regular season and invite everybody to the playoffs. The regular season is meaningless, anyway.

The NFL says hi.

LOL.

Without injuries, this would be a boring version of chess.

The NFL also has a PUP list and a practice squad so that people can deal with injuries realistically.

It might be a big ask to expect you to actually have an attention span, but I wasn't saying that injuries shouldn't exist, just that they are way too powerful right now, and they are making the regular season meaningless.

With overpowering injuries, this would be a boring version of gin rummy.

Ok, let's take Seattle Seahawks last season.

Last couple of weeks of regular season they lose Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny and have to play playoff games with an untested rookie (Travis Homer) and a retired Marshawn Lynch. Fairness doesn't come into it. PUP lists and practice squads weren't going to make a difference.

Sometimes injuries hit, c'est la vie. With good squad building and judicial use of fatigue settings you can plot a path through - as you did.

It's a physical game, injuries will occur.

I believe CJFred is setting up a league 'no-holds-barred' which will have injuries set at 20% maybe you should have a look?

I edited something, but it makes for a good point.

Every single season, the NFL is buzzing in anticipation with roster moves, promising rookies and about 10-16 teams being touted as legit super bowl contenders.

Then the sun goes down and takes a third of the league with it and teams start scambling for fixes and patches.

It happens EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON.

The amount of times I heard "Dude came from practice squad and really made a difference" is... I don't know. 2-10 the 11 years I've followed the NFL?

It would obviously be different in MFN, as we have exact stats and can more or less predict the average quality of the players.

I hate it when my starters start dropping like flies, but I know that it happens to everyone and what makes a difference is how we face adversity. I'm at a point where my team has peaked and will be going down. How I handle this period is way more exciting to me, than the first 7 seasons where I've more or less AFK-steamrolled.

Yeah, like the real NFL.

Also, we have information on what causes injury likelihood. You can lower your injury rates like five different ways, try using those.

That might happen, if we actually *had* a practice squad.
