If your new you can trade next years picks. If you're a three season vet you can trade three years out.

Hm, that's actually a very interesting thought. I'd still cap it at 5 years I think, but that also would help prevent the drive-by team implosion issue.

I agree that this may be the best way to go.

However, that would mean that in any new league nobody can trade picks any farther in the future than the next draft. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this.

Frankly I don't see the problem with the way things stand as they are now.

As one of the teams involved in the OP, I feel that I should have the option to future-build through multiple Drafts and multiple Draft picks if I so choose. Am I going to get burned by doing that? Surely that's a possibility. And frankly if it boils down to, "Well, it hasn't been seen in the NFL", I'd caveat that with a "yet" unless there's a rule against it. And if there IS a rule and JDB implements a matching rule here, then fine.

And I apologize if I come off a little 'snippy'... One, I'm at work (always a downer). Two, I guess I'm a little protective of my team and the perception of how I play. I'm not playing to be someone's farm team. I'm playing my brand of football, be it 'right' or 'wrong'.

Anyway... That's my 1/50th of a dollar.
If you really want to say this and justify this then you would be making these trades season per season and not 3-4 seasons in the future. No way can this be rightly justified. This is 2 separate leagues now that these same type of trades have been made to the same owner. I can go back in the history and find more of these same exact kind of trades. Sorry but no way am I buying into this type of trades anymore. round 4,5,6 for second rounders just tells me your feeding his draft and have no desire to rebuild.

Go ahead and chase owners away and you 2 can enjoy the game. I am not renewing anymore seasons until this **** is corrected.

Thats my dollars worth and it pisses me off that this game will be ruined by this kind of ****.

Why not put a Limit on the number of trades per team per season? Like 3 per.

I understand giving up good picks for good players, or good players for good picks. I don't understand giving up good picks for bad picks. But, I try not to complain about somebody else's trades. To each his own.

However, it's obvious that some sort of approval process needs to be put in place before more owners start dropping out.

I don't want to see this game become a wasteland of a bunch of no-owner, no-picks teams.

I sure wouldn't take over a team that had given up all their picks with nothing to show for it (such as getting a bunch of young 80+ players in return).

If this causes a bunch of teams to go without owners, it will also prevent the creation of new leagues, which will make it even less likely that new people will decide to start playing.

Maybe there should be a league that requires you to "buy in", such as only open to those who have purchased credits? This might discourage people from coming, destroying a team, then leaving, at least in one league.

I stand corrected, its 4 leagues now that these same trades have happened involving the same owners. Sorry no justification.

Screw it, anyone want to trade for my players and draft picks send offers. I am gonna break my teams down also and only draft in rounds 4 or later and "rebuild" or just not renew my ownership of teams after the trades.

I love that you are all passionate about the game! I also know that we're all on the same page here, we want this game to be the best it can be, and fun for new users who take over abandoned teams. I truly value your input and am following this thread with interest; please continue to offer ideas and don't be afraid of counterpoints to your arguments. I'm not going to make a snap judgement and make wholesale changes without really thinking it through, and threads like these are immeasurably helpful.

I will also again say that, from a strategic standpoint, I see merit to both King and Swish's reasonings behind the trades. I am only concerned that this kind of trade breaks the illusion since you don't see this kind of trade in real life.

I like several of the ideas presented as solutions here, although I'm not ready to take action on any yet. I don't want to eliminate trades altogether, I think it's a great part of the game; restricting future years based on how long you have been in the league is currently my favorite (maybe 2 years for first season players), although I think both Swish and King have been around long enough that this would not have changed their ability to make these trades. I also like the idea of requiring some measure of balance in the number of items each side offers. The voting override is also interesting although I'd prefer to solve this as much as possible by preventing questionable trades in the first place.

Credit-purchase only leagues (I am guessing I'd do that by requiring a minimum credit balance of 6 in order to join/renew) is an interesting idea, I'd be very curious to hear if there's enough support for that to try it out. I'd want to have at least 20 or so potential owners interested before launching a league with that restriction.

I would join.

I agree with the proposal to only allow trades as far into the future as years in the league. I would not even go to 2 for new owners. This would help reduce the risk from multiple account players.

I am not sure there is a way to fix this as long as trades are allowed. I dont want to see trades eliminated but i also dont like seeing them being taken advantage. I am sorry i dont see these trades as fair value or an excuse that its for rebuilding purpose specially when they are done 4-5 years in advance. These trades are happening over and over with the same owners. You cant tell me your rebuilding a team with draft picks in rounds 4-7 with the possibility of getting players that are in the 40-50 skill range instead of keeping early rounds (that will most likely be in the top 5 or 10 because of the record) that will be in the range of 70-90's. Sorry but I am not buying into this at all. These trades are being made 5 years in advance. This right here just puts a major sour taste to this game for me and I will most likely be gone after all my leagues are done. I am not even gonna bother drafting in the new leagues next week as this has caused me to lose interest in future leagues. This is a great game with promise but is going to be ruined by a few owners.

Good luck everyone, I am done posting.

I'll just say this, and leave it at that... Because I'm not looking to **** people off, but apparently that's happening. I've been in this game a long time, and it's not my intention to "drive people away", like it seems is implied.

If there's such a problem with the trades as I made them (and according to my own plans), then just have JDB cancel them. I won't argue, and I'll try to rework my long-term picture to cater to how the game "should be played".

Not trying to flame, not trying to be a jackass. But that's my final word on it. Trades or no, I will continue to play the game.

Have a good day.
