Roll back to game engine 0.4.2?

By jdavidbakr - Site Admin

So there has been significant request to roll back to game engine 0.4.2. There are three courses of action I can take:

1) Get 0.4.4 done as soon as possible to only address the issues that are concerning people in 0.4.3 (my current plan, but no eta as of yet)
2) Roll back to 0.4.2 immediately for all leagues (this would cause an unprecedented change of the game engine in the middle of the season for all leagues)
3) Roll back to 0.4.2 as leagues complete their seasons, unless 0.4.4 is released before the season ends

I can't make a poll in the community forum, so in lieu of that I'm going to add 3 more posts to this thread. Please "like" the option(s) that you prefer.

Like this post to vote for leaving the game engine in place and get 0.4.4 done asap, transitioning leagues to 0.4.4 as normal.

Like this post to vote to roll back to 0.4.2 IMMEDIATELY (which means midseason for all leagues, whether they are in the middle of a draft or in the middle of the playoffs)

Like this post to vote for rolling back to 0.4.2 as seasons end their current 0.4.3 season unless 0.4.4 is released in the meantime.

Having not played the game under 0.4.2, I consider myself unable to make an informed decision about which of the options I prefer, so I will abstain from liking any of them.

That said, I absolutely want to go on record as NOT being in favor of the option calling for an immediate mid-season reversion to 0.4.2 for the simple reason of not wanting to lose partial seasons worth of data for how depth charts and playbooks function with one engine only to have to restart the process for how a new engine operates while midstream in an environment where the W?s and L?s matter. I?ve got no qualms about going back as each world rolls over if that?s the will of the masses...I can learn the old engine through trial and error the same way I learned the current one. I just want the preseason games to study and evaluate the subtleties between the versions.

I don't think the problems with 0.4.3, or with 0.4.4 that is in beta, are going to be resolved any time soon unless 0.4.4 is going to be seriously de-scoped.

Our league is brand new and all the coaches are new to the game so we've yet to knowingly experience the apparent shortcomings with 0.4.3 - which is why I've voted to move forward rather than back.

Is there an up to date description of what's being worked on for 0.4.4? The development roadmap can be a little vague and doesn't look as though it's been updated in a while. Similarly the blog hasn't seen a post since 2015... am I missing a treasure-trove of information somewhere?
