Re: Waiver selection

Is there a formula for selecting a team out of several that put a claim on a waived player?

In L35, we had a few elite players from one team that were cut for some reason and they ended up being split between two teams out of several that put in claims, one team got the top three. So was just wondering if there was anything that gives one team/owner an advantage over another when they put in a claim, or is it just random. If it is random, then we had one team who got super lucky, lol.

The team with the worst record gets the first pass on all players. If the bottom team puts in a claim on all waiver wire players, they will get them all - of course, they will have to make room on their roster for them.

I believe the team with the worst record SHOULD get the first choice at the best players on waiver, but not the second best, third best, and ect on a given week. The ONLY way this should be possible is IF no other teams put in a waiver claim the same week.

If two or more people put a waiver claim in a given week, then the one with the worst record should get the first choice. Then after the team with the worst record makes their pick, then the team with the second best record should have priority. If the team with the second best record ONLY put a waiver request in for the best player, then they forfeit their claim and it should go to the next team that put in a claim for the second best player should get it, and so on until it returns to the team with the worst record.

By not following this, you have created a disadvantage towards the other owners who wish to remain competitive. By not following this you have eliminated parity within the league. By not following this you have made more teams privileged while taking away a chance to lesser teams. By not following this you have created a way cheaters who use Multis to exploit the system. By not following this you basically said "The owner with the worst record gets the first pick, second pick, third pick, and ect...in the next season's draft." In other words, by not following this, you basically gave a green light on UNBALANCED, UNFAIR trades with the one who did not who cut the player without being penalized.

Please take the time to think this through.

I agree with Booger926 on this; this is how I expected waivers to work and was surprised to see that it did not work like this.

For such a procedure to be implemented properly though, teams will need to be able to rank their waiver acquisitions for each week. The worst team which put in a request will get their first ranked request, then each team subsequent team (in order of worst record) will get their highest-ranked still-viable request. The cycle repeats when all teams with requests have made one request or have run out of viable requests.

The waiver wire is pretty pointless if the worst team can get all the players provided it has sufficient cap space.

Well, that explains what happened in MFN 35, as now we have another method that is wide open to and encourages dupe, dummy, and/or multi-accounts. An existing dupe account or a new one is set up to take over a team and cut top players, so obvious and blatant. The waiver system is wide open for abuse.... so you can now add that to the trade meter and trade cheat problem. And, another thing that adds to my suspicion about this particular waiver situation in L35, the team owner name is all caps/number, which was one of the things pointed out by this thread:

https://cust35.myfootballnow.com/community/thread/1/2770?page=14#20487

Unbelievable. Hope jdb realizes this will be a problem and taken advantage of and will correct it. The FA period is still the best method for dealing with good players who are cut for whatever reason, either neglecting to renegotiate or having to deal with a salary cap problem, then its an open bid for them with no guarantee of landing them.

I dont see where that would be much of a problem. Having to make room on your roster for elite players. Even if your salary cap is in bad shape, its not hard to cut other players to make room for a player with superior attributes and rating.

I didn't catch this in this thread, and perhaps it was in another thread, or maybe it's implied - but someone sent me a PM saying that folks are thinking the waiver wire applies during the regular free agency period.

It doesn't.

The first stage of the season where a player can be cut and subsequently claimed off of waivers is training camp stage (meaning they can be claimed in the preseason midweek). Players cut before that point become regular free agents where they are for sale to the highest bidder.

Thanks jdb, good to know, but it still wont stop the potential abuse problem with the waiver system, which is the case with the travesty that just recently occured in L35, the subject of this thread.
