You talk like it's a million miles away from being a good simulation, I disagree. That's fine, hopefully this debate will inspire JDB to make some adjustments to the code. I've pm'd him to make him aware of the thread as I know from previous pm's that he doesn't read the General forums, unless something is brought to his attention.

It's clear to see that both sides of this debate want a more explosive?/expansive? passing game - basically if you could take a few shots downfield in every game and get the odd completion that would be enough for me. I expect others want more, but baby steps for now. IF a team can throw a deep ball, it will keep defenses more honest ie they won't be able to stack the box to stop the run or risk getting burnt on a deep shot (which is also a rarity in 4.5). If they do it too often, it becomes boom/bust with defenses adjusting to shut down the deep ball and/or force an interception.

Then hopefully we can have a wider variety of 'staple' plays on both sides of the ball rather than the minimalistic gameplans we see throughout 4.5.

*As you can see, the data is limited. I don't have a final tally, and it's possible that teams figured out how to better defend the run. I have to wonder if anybody has really pursued a run-heavy attack, however, with a talented RB behind a strong OL with high acceleration.

Can I ask what a couple of the headers are showing. I'm assuming Med is Median?, what is Any/A? and STD?

Thanks for sharing, hopefully people are finding this helpful and/or interesting.

Correct on median (not to be confused with mean/average).

ANY/A is the adjusted net yards per attempt

I meant to hide the STD column, but that's the standard deviation. Setherick can explain it better, but I think of it like this: If the result is not the median, what's the difference?

I don't see why this needs an explanation.

Anyway, here's the week 1 rushing stats from Legends, which shows (to an extent) what players have learned and adapted to over four seasons.

Rushing stas on all run plays now included.

Note Tackles for loss is only for plays with a loss of more than half a yard. There are occasional instances where a short loss (or a short gain) are recorded as zero yards ie somewhere between -0.49 yards and +0.49 yards.

Average rush play got 3.91 yards per play. Some plays are very much personnel dependant, for instance avoid running pitches and tosses if your QB or RB has low avoid fumble. I think Sweep plays need pulling Guards, Tackles, Tight Ends and/or Full backs to have enough speed, acceleration, strength and run blocking to clear a path for the Running Back - and may work better for a RB with less speed but great acceleration who can run behind his blockers until a hole opens up for him to shoot through. Just a theory, may not hold up in practice but worth looking at if you have a RB with less than 80 speed.

Dive plays seem to get good yards when used in contrary scenarios. For example, long down situations with teams in pass defense in these situations the play either gets blown up at the line of scrimmage or the back finds a hole before running into the Safeties after approx 12-13 yards.

Some runs with low average yards are actually very good plays. For example Goal to go from inside the two and short down situations where you need two yards or less. If you can average 2.1 yards in those situations it's a good call but not appear to be.

Only one team ran it (iirc) the full play by plays are on the first tab if you want to check.
